Volunteer Information

Starting January 31, 2022, the District will be allowing approved volunteers on school campuses.

All volunteers are required to apply through the Raptor System. Those who have not been approved through the Raptor System during this current school year will need to do so.

As the goal is to have our schools remain open for in-person instruction for the entire school year, all volunteers at this time are required to be fully vaccinated* or present a current negative COVID-19 test** upon entry to the school site. All levels of volunteers will be required to provide other requirements such as a TB-test*** within the last 60 days.

Interested volunteers may apply through the following links:

Raptor District Volunteer Application++ (Raptor en español)

++It is recommended to apply on a PC to reduce any site formatting issues. If applying on a mobile device, please have the device in landscape mode so that all text is accurately displayed.

Once an application has been approved, volunteers will receive an email indicating they have been approved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Try rotating your mobile device horizontally so that the text on screen spreads out. Make sure you allow your phone to display in Landscape mode.

Please bring a TB assessment form to any health care provider. The following locations are suggested for TB assessment/skin testing throughout the year:

  1. Your own private physician/health insurance provider
  2. HOPE Clinic, BESST Center
    • 2045 Meyer Place, Costa Mesa
    • Call (949) 515-6725 for an appointment
    • Free TB assessment/skin tests for NMUSD classroom volunteers
      • If TB skin test is positive, it is the volunteer's responsibility to seek follow-up care with a medical provider who will order a chest x-ray and deem if other treatment is necessary.
  3. Local Walk-in Clinics

California's Megan's Law was enacted in 1996 Penal Code § 290.46. It mandates the California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) to notify the public about specified registered sex offenders. Megan’s Law also authorizes local law enforcement agencies to notify the public about sex offender registrants found to be posing a risk to public safety.

Our Raptor System automatically runs all volunteers through the Megan's Law database to determine if any applicants may be a registered sex offender. No action is needed on the volunteer's part to complete this screening.

Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received.

If any adjustments or additional information is needed to complete your application, the District Volunteer Coordinator will reach out. Please make sure to check your inbox and spam folder so you do not miss any communication.

Congratulations! You are now an Approved Volunteer!

To sign up for specific events and activities, please reach out to the school site for which you applied.

When you arrive at the school site, please make sure to bring:

  • Valid identification card
  • Current negative COVID-19 test** (if applicable)

The office staff will support you in signing-in and provide you with a badge to wear for the duration of your time on campus.

An application may be denied for a few reasons:

  • One or more of the requirements were incomplete
    • ex. TB assessment/test was completed more than 60 days ago
  • The function you applied for does not match the description of the volunteer services you will be providing on campus
    • ex. A field trip chaperone applying as a "Speaker/Presenter (L4)"

Please refer to the follow up email sent by the District Volunteer Coordinator for more details (make sure to check your Spam/Junk folder).

Once adjustments have been made, you may submit a new Raptor Application.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

If you are an NMUSD Employee, serving as a volunteer in activities such as Classroom, Field Trip, Office Help, please apply as the volunteer function title, "NMUSD Employee - School Site Volunteer (L2/3)."

Your TB clearance will be verified by the District Volunteer Coordinator.
