Technology Donations

Newport-Mesa does accept some donated computer equipment.  If you are interested in donating any kind of technology equipment (computers, monitors, printers, scanners, etc.), please contact us.

If you are considering donating new equipment, thank you!  Check with your school of choice, to see what kind of equipment, software, or peripherals they need the most.  If it's computer or printer equipment, it's best to donate the funds to the school, so they can purchase the equipment.  This way there are no compatibility issues, it's enterprise quality and it would come with the appropriate software and manufacturer support; whether the equipment is new or used, we check to make sure that it is in good working condition and that it is compatible with our extensive network and security management systems.

Donation of computers, laptops, tablets or Chromebooks

Whether the equipment is new or used, we check to make sure that it is in good working condition and that it is compatible with our extensive network and security management systems.

Laptops and desktops must be compatible with Windows 10, have a minimum 4GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, and DisplayPort or HDMI video output. Currently the following computers are used in the District: HP 8300 series desktop; HP 640 G2 series laptops; Dell Optiplex 3040/50 and Latitude 7040/50.

Chromebooks must be new and one of the following makes/models: Lenovo N23 or Acer C740; we cannot accept used Chromebooks or other makes or models. It is highly recommended that you donate funds to the school to purchase equipment, instead of donating equipment itself; this ensures that equipment is purchased with appropriate warranty, licenses and software. If you donate Chromebooks directly to the school, the site will be required to use site funds to purchase management licenses for each device.

Unfortunately, District cannot accept donations of Apple iOS devices due to complications with managing and supporting iOS devices. Currently, Apple only allows the District to register and manage devices directly purchased by the District; donated devices cannot be enrolled into our management solution, and as a consequence we cannot provide same support and functionality for donated devices.

Printers, Monitors, and other peripherals

Monitors must be flat panel models, at least 21" in size with HDMI or DisplayPort connectors.

Printers cannot be accepted as donations. District utilizes a Managed Print Services solution for printer support and maintenance, which prevents us from using donated printers.

Donation of software

Donation must include any relevant license documents, original media provided by the publisher, any related support documentation, and proof of purchase. Required documents should be provided to the school of your choice with a letter expressing your intent to donate the software title to the school. IT will confirm that software meets our current standards and is supported with respect to our network, computers, and support processes, and will discuss with the receiving school if there are any additional requirements for installation.
